Why the Czech Republic?

Why serve as missionaries in the Czech Republic?

Today, the Czech Republic is the least religious and most atheistic nation in the world.  Recent statistics suggest that atheism represents the beliefs of 84% of Czechs.  Meanwhile, born-again Christians represent a mere 0.8% of the population.  In Southern Bohemia, that percentage drops to approximately 0.2%-0.3% of the population, making the Czechs of Southern Bohemia one of the least reached people groups in the entire world.

We are working in partnership with the Czech Baptist Union and like-minded Christians to plant Bible-believing churches in Southern Bohemia.  Specifically, we are working in the Ceske Budejovice area to encourage and support a small church that already exists and assist in planting a new church in this vicinity.  The primary ministry is evangelism, as no new churches can be planted without believers to establish them!  Church growth in Southern Bohemia is truly organic, as there are no Christians to ebb and flow from one congregation to another as is so characteristic of typical church-planting.  This presents both a challenge, and a tremendous opportunity. Working from the ground up is hard work, but the reward is seeing authentic faith in Christ grow and develop free of the trappings of religion and cultural Christianity.
